Wii's First Casualty

The Wii's controller has been a subject of lots of jokes becuase it had a really bad handstrap. In fact the site http://www.wiihaveaproblem.com/ lists lots of first hand injuries related to the wii control. Notable examples are that someone broke their arm and another person may have been charged with involuntary manslaughter (becuase their wiimote fell 11 stories).

Well there was a news article about someone that killed a baby with a 'controller'; heh I wonder which one was used
http://technorati.com/articles/UySgGTacw23ZJ1QNR1vMzawSobHRi%2FdodPmeHHOxBaU%3D

I also rather like the Tiers are for queers sketch on http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/428847

If you never saw Yu-Gi_OH abridged, its a GREAT series that is very well done. Doesn't matter if you didn't see the actual series since theres not really too much plot in a children's cartoon based on a card game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8h4McZI9cA&feature=related

You can find all ~30 episodes and entire 40 min movie on youtube.

He just made an april fool's video with the Best Name EVER!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1qtCfFv7e0

Fantasy Writer fights communism??!?

I LOVE Terry Goodkind's Fantasy Books. Its not that hes a very original writer since almost every situation is virtually impossible and unbelievable but theres some addictive soap opera aspect to his books. In his later books he ran out of decent Fantasy story lines so the main characters now fight communism and are living 20th century lives in some twisted quasi medieval world.

In Fantasy tradition the first book is a comming of age story for Richard where he finds out he is a wizard, has a birthright to an invincible sword, and that his real father is actually an evil mage overlord trying to kill the protagonist. Of course Richard kills the evil mage, learns awesome magic, and gets a super hot virgin girl wife. After around the third book Richard basically becomes the most powerful wizard who rules the entire known world with more skill then if he received an actual education.

In every book after the third book. The sword, girl, kingdom and his ability to use magic have been taken away from him and just for kicks an "Imperial Order" was added to the world (literally ADDED) which is thousands of times larger then Richards world (with the amazing origional names of "New World" and "Old world")

I shall give the Plots of books 4,5, and 6 in one/two sentences each to show how far Goodkind has fallen (this is a series of 11 books)

Book 4: Richard is ruling the known world as the strongest Mage with an Invincible sword WHEN the Imperial order causes a magic resistant plague to wreak havok. Everyone runs around like chickens without heads until Richard discovers a Deus Ex plot device which is never really explained to magically cure the "magic resistant" plague.

Book 5: Richard unknowingly ended all magic in the world so as a common man he convinces a kingdom to run a democratic election to join his evil empire. Richard loses said election because of his morals (said kingdom goes commie and everyone becomes slaves); In the last 50 pages Richard uses an abstract unexplained Deus Ex plot device to restore magic (without magic?!?).

Book 6: Richard realizes he can't win the war so he becomes a hermit refusing to lead his evil empire where he lives with his wife and a female S&M bodyguard. Richard is easily kidnapped to the heart of Communist territory by a psycho sorceress who makes it impossible for either of them to use magic. Richard crates a black market and defeats communism with supply and demand; he also makes a peasant revolt with sclupture of someone with money (psycho mage girl realizes her life has been a waste and goes emo).

His writing style is great but I can't imagine how much worse he can get. I somehow predict book 7 includes the magic equivalent of an atomic bomb which Richard single handily stops by using economics and throwing puppies at the even more evil Emperor.
Then Book 8 should include the power source of magic which is buried in the sands of the "Even Newer World" and obtained with a combination of a sclupture and an unjustified war (with much puppy throwing).

Cool comp programs

I found some pretty cool packet sniffers / editors as well as a nifty free service that makes my computer anonymous (yet makes the internet a but slow). LOL; In testing some of these nifty programs out I managed to get banned from the Jetman game in facebook (on a fake alias made simply so i could play around with the programs). I'm actually rather curious if I could send a packet to unban me. If they looked into the matter it would seem as if it was some random guy in new Zealand with a randomly changing IP address :-)

Wow, I've been away from CNN way too long

So quite possibly the most unconstitutional act was passed last month; The Protect America Act. It authorizes open-ended surveillance on anything wireless by the executive branch. Besides just cell phones, this actually includes the entire internet. This means that every E-mail, Aim conversation, and web search that you make is potentially being screened by the government and stored in a data base. Theres no regulation on what they do with the data. Its a pretty scary combination with the "Military Commissions Act" of 2006 which allows the executive branch to arrest and jail indefinitely without a warrant, evidence, or access to a lawyer if you are a suspected terrorist or fund a terrorist organization (even unknowingly).

Random things to get use to

Pittsburgh has been fun, I've spent most of my time making little wax teeth with the occasional studying for Histology, Biochem, and Dental anatomy. Of course in every transition there are always a couple of things that take getting use to. For instance EVERYONE loves the steelers. Sunday morning is a holy occasion where people go to pray at sports bars, communion is 30 cent wings, and the Antichrist is the person that says they aren't the greatest thing since the advent of oxygen. Another thing is that all the drivers must love breakfast since they are always trying to turn the pedestrians in the crosswalks into pancakes. I personally take a bike which wouldn't be bad if I could bike 50 MPH in the 30 MPH roads but until then most drivers will take every opportunity to let me know they are displeased with my very presents. I got a kick when I saw a law student biking last week with a sign on his back saying "You run me over and I'll Sue for BIG $$$". I was wondering what a dental student's sign might say but I never decided which is worse; a mouth full of decay or amature dental care.

I suppose the last thing to get use to is mannerisms in speech. Its a bit odd going somewhere where I have an accent; I swear my name is DAN with an A not DON! The person at PNC bank must have had a really hard time hearing me since my bank card says Daniel S Greensburgh. I can't even understand why, my handwriting was completely legible and I had to show 2 forms of ID.

I also don't quite know how to respond to some of the Pittsburgh coloquilisms. For instance I was talking to a female classmate about our scrubs which seem well fitted for someone of Danny Devito's stature. I have a hard time keeping my pants on without tying a tourniquet around my waist (no elastic) and pants seem fine when I'm standing upright but they go halfway up my shin when I'm sitting. Apparently it fits like this for everyone, so the girl I was talking to said "well, Try being a girl". I actually had no idea how to respond to that comment other then a rather blankly "umm .... yeah ...." . The most sarcastic thing I could think of would have been to grunt like I was transforming and ask for a piece of chocolate.

Ah well enough slacking; must study Histo :P

Done with American Gods. BTW Neil Gaiman is far more of a pervert then i expected (I read 3 other of his books too). They must say the quote "Wanna see lucy's tits"[of I love lucy] three or so times. There was also a random story about someone who stole a tiger's balls and gave the tiger spider's balls (spiders have balls???). Perhaps the worst is a woman named Bilquis whose akin to a crack addict in her habit of sucking men up her crotch (WTF!!). Gaiman is so frickin twisted but I loved the book, there wasn't much of a plot but the humor and storytelling drew me in and kept me engaged to the most mundane tasks done by the protagonist.

Also quite sad is my lack of wheel of time. Seriously, i probably lost my relationship directly because of that damn series and its still one book away from being finished. I picked up Sword of truth (now halfway in the second book) but its not quite the same; its not badly written but it lacks the character depth that Robert Jordan had. Characters are given powers, roles, and lineages but have little in the way of unique attributes. Some of the things in sword of truth hurt my head as they are direct rip offs of wheel of time. Like there are hearthounds rather then darkhounds (but the same creature). Theres a tower of sorceresses with silver collars used to control male magic users (thats actually a direct rip off of so many parts of WoT). Bah this is what happens when I get too much free time. I've just been convincing myself that I'm training for Pitt Dental rather then admitting I'm actually a dork (yeah bloody right)

PS. If Jeff reads this ..... I may have left your copy of Academ's Fury in pitt; and by may i either mean definitely or just 'opps'. I'll just buy another copy when i get the chance, it seems like you might need a few more rereads before the cover will fall off the new copy :P

I could use a break from this break

Its been too long since I've been in school. I think I'm going stir crazy as there is way too little to do around here. Its been a relaxing break in some ways but its also a definite low point too. I'm still pretty damned excited that I'm going to be a dental student (and dentist) and i don't think anything could take that away. Although over the past month; my car has died, my parents treat me like I'm 10, and I've been dumped for what i took to be a happy 3.5 yr relationship for reasons (besides distance) that i'm not entirely sure on. I tried talking to Corinna a few times but shes been quick to say shes tired or something. I just figure thats just her subtle way to say shes over me now and possibly even before she dumped me. I have no way to 'solve' the distance problem and i'm pretty damn oblivious any other problems, so i more or less threw up my hands and accepted it (although i did vent by fencing 12 hours the next day to the point of dire exhaustion).

Outside of that, I've been reading quite a bit and still loving it. I just picked up American Gods by Neil Gaiman at the airport today and I hope to finish it by tomorrow. I just came back from 1st year orientation at the dental school and I really like the entering class. The orientation is simply an excuse to drink for a week straight but it was a pretty damn fun week. Perhaps i can find another hobby or something until dental school, i already began making sculptures like a clay frog.

LOL, one of my old favorite shows on fox had a controversial pilot episode. The show was "The lone gunman" which was an off beat government conspiracy show that contained rather plausible plot lines. One plot line i really liked was that a scientist invented a water powered car in hopes for a Utopian society but refused to market it because it would cause an economic boom resulting in an even larger population and more roads taking over the world.

Well in any case the pilot episode was about the US government crashing a plane in the world trade center and then blaming it on terrorist groups to stimulate the economy and probably scare the population into giving the president more power. The episode can be found on you tube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB6EWF3vulc . Its probably just a random rumor but I think they got the idea from the CIA

I'm starting to get stir crazy with all this free time. Its not like i have nothing to do, since I have to do tons of apps for diffrent schools and random papers i could always write but I wish there was something a little more .... productive? Perhaps just less boring.

i'm glad I have some time to read all the books that i couldn't read in college, but as of now I have little else that appeals to me. I'm use to taking 18 credits and i've come to enjoy the all-nighters i would pull. As of now I'm taking 2 graduate level classes at Queens college which seem disapointingly easy. I have another class where i learn to draw blood for blood drives so i can get med experence and I fence on the weekends and probably wednesdays nights (formerly the weekdays and weekends). Well I'm always fencing and I'm rather glad to have a 'C' rating to show for it all, Although a rating means little more then that i go to a lot of events :P.

Perhaps I'll have to try being social at some point. Although the people I meet now are radically diffrent then the New Palzites that I'm use to. I might add that I would never get confused for a city dweller, so Queens colleges makes for an intresting temp fit. The phlebotomy (blood taking) is a bit more odd though since I seem to be the youngest person there and one of very few males and a belong to the even smaller minority of college grad(s) :P.

Oh and P.S, I'm not dead (as mike may have wondered during his crazy korean stavation mode.)

I was soooo close to getting a B06 but i'll settle for a C06 for now. Perhaps by the end of the summer I'll be good enough to get first at sandy's event. Now I have to pick up foil and saber again although that can wait till after i get use to my new epee.

On a side note I wonder if i'll ever get good enough for fencing to be a factor for grad schools accepting me.

jeeze i got a 99% percentile on the physics part of the MCAT. Other parts stayed the same but i was really suprised. I should have taken the computer part before, i didn't even finish the test but i somehow only got 2 questions wrong out of 77 (I think i rushed 5 of them). Ah well it pushed my score past that dreaded 30 mark so its all good.

I managed to get 4 epee events in the next week and a half. Two of the events should be B1's or B2's, one is a C2, and one is an A2 event. I think my arm will be completly black (and blue) by the end of the week. I may end up skiping practice at the fishkill fencers on mon and wed since my arm has been bothering me. I kinda went overboard on wednesday when i fenced for two hours with a weapon that i can't parry with.

My goal right now is to get a B ranking by the end of the summer. I have a good shot at getting a C06 at the C2 event since there are only 4 D's and nothing higher. I'm looking foward to the A2 event as well, there should be 5 A's but they are all from the same club and its a New Jersey event so the event should be quite a bit easier then the other A events I went to.

Ah well i need to stop slacking, perhaps I'll make a useful update one of these days.
